Massage Etiquette
Nothing makes us happier than welcoming new guests to our spa! We know that your first massage can seem intimidating, but we promise you that you are in for a fantastic treat! As a general protocol for any service, we do ask that all new guests are at least 15 minutes early for any service. This gives you time to be checked in and to change after you fill out a short piece of paperwork for us so we can be aware of your medical history. The more time you allow for yourself, the more relaxed we can help you be. We do have both a steam room and a sauna in the men’s and the women’s changing areas and these are absolutely complimentary for you! If you would like to use these to warm up your muscles before your massage, or to open your pores prior to a facial, please give yourself additional time to use before your services. Once you are checked in, one of our friendly staff members will show you to the changing areas and hand you a robe. For your massage, you will want to take off all your clothing (underwear is optional) and put the robe on. Sandals are provided in all the lockers. If you have come early enough to allow time for using the steam room or sauna, your body will have some extra time to unwind and your muscles will have a chance to be warmed up before your massage. A massage can be similar to exercise, so it is important to warm up your muscles and increase circulation before we begin. Once you are seated in the lounge area, your therapist will come and introduce themselves and pour an Epsom salt foot bath for you while they prepare your room. This is beneficial because Epsom salt is detoxifying, and is known to relieve muscle pain. Your service provider will ask if there are any areas that you want to be concentrated on, or if you have any current medical issues. This will help you to enjoy your massage even more! Your therapist will take you into the massage room where it will be a little dark and ask you to lay on the bed under one sheet and on top the other. When your therapist returns to the room, they will begin your massage. If at any time you would like more pressure (or less) or have any questions they will be happy to accommodate. Any one hour massage or hour and a half massage will be a full body massage. This means the massage therapist will work on your feet, legs, arms, hands, back, neck, and shoulder area. Your therapist may ask you if you would like your “glutes” or “gluteal muscles” worked on. These muscles are located in the buttocks and are often the source of low back pain. Having this area worked on in unison with the rest of your body will contribute to an overall better massage. This time is for you to relax and for your body to release pain and tension. Communication is the key to having a productive massage. After your massage is through, feel free to stay as long as you like and use the steam room or sauna to continue to unwind. The steam rooms are closed nightly after 7 p.m. to allow for disinfecting so be sure to take advantage of it before then. Our spa is a sanctuary and you are always welcome to take full advantage of that. We always welcome any type of feedback and want to be sure we are doing our best to make you feel your best. Please let any staff member know if we need to improve anything or how much better you feel. We love to hear how we are doing and we can’t wait to welcome you back.
